Leading Prevention in Practice


Are you an experienced practitioner in primary prevention of violence against women (PVAW)? Do you want to strengthen your specialist knowledge and skills to lead high level prevention initiatives? If this rings true then our new Leading Prevention in Practice course is for you.


Leading Prevention in Practice is based on recognised industry standards and will equip emerging practice leaders (mid to senior level) with an advanced level of knowledge and skills required to design, implement, evaluate and communicate PVAW initiatives. The industry standard capabilities for this course are outlined in Preventing Family Violence and Violence Against Women Capability Framework.

What you will learn

Upon completion of the program you will be equipped to:
  • lead the design, implementation and evaluation of high-level evidence based PVAW programs
  • translate PVAW theoretical models and frameworks, and actions in to initiatives 
  • apply appropriate partnership models to your PVAW activity
  • analyse, document and communicate the processes, impacts and outcomes from programs and initiatives to a variety of audiences including policymakers and the media
  • design whole of population tailored approaches to meet the needs of working with diverse groups and communities 
  • provide leadership, advocacy and policy reform in the prevention sector

Leading Prevention in Practice includes a range of interactive activities and evidence-based resources, and provides opportunities for participants to share ideas, ask questions, engage in reflective practice and learn from one other.  

Who is this training for?  
  • Mid level PVAW practitioners with at least 5 years’ experience, who have a lead role in the design and implementation of high level PVAW initiatives and projects.
  • Mid level PVAW practitioners who are currently or have recently had a lead role in the implementation of a primary prevention of violence against women project
  • Any experienced practitioner keen to deepen their skills and knowledge in prevention program design, implementation, evaluation, communication and advocacy.

This training will draw upon participants current and recent projects as live case studies to help deepen conceptual and practical activities.
