CHCDFV002 Provide support to children affected by domestic and family violence

Whether you are new to family violence, or to working with children and young people, this four-day accredited course will support you to understand these unique issues and experiences, and give you practical skills to help you engage with and respond appropriately to children and young people, and strengthen relationships between mothers and children.

Introduction

Children and young people who have experienced family violence have their own unique experiences, perspectives, risks and needs.

Whether you are new to family violence, or to working with children and young people, this four-day accredited course will support you to understand these unique issues and experiences, and give you practical skills to help you engage with and respond appropriately to children and young people, and strengthen relationships between mothers and children.

On successful completion of assessment, participants will receive a Statement of Attainment for the nationally accredited unit: CHCDFV002 Provide support to children affected by domestic and family violence.

What will I learn?

Through interactive and engaging activities and opportunities to practice key skills, you will learn about:

  • the impacts of family violence
  • trauma and the way it presents at different ages
  • attachment and the mother-child bond
  • risk assessment and safety planning
  • strengthening relationships between children and their mother or caregiver
  • creative engagement strategies and useful resources
  • advocating on behalf of children and young people

  • Children’s workers and counsellors
  • Specialist family violence professionals who work with families, or those who work primarily with mothers but want to be able to better understand children’s experience and support mothers with parenting
  • Refuge workers
  • Child Protection practitioners
  • Child FIRST workers
  • Orange Door workers
  • Educators and teachers

Cost: 

$595 SHS (Specialist Homelessness Service) funded worker
$1495 Non SHS (Specialist Homelessness Service) funded worker

SHS or Specialist Homelessness Services provides funding support to most family violence and housing/homelessness services. If you are unsure about your SHS status, please check with your organisations Finance Officer or Administration Coordinator.
