Working With Fathers

CAL-WWF

Working with fathers who perpetrate intimate partner violence.

Delivered by Tracy Castellino from ShantiWorks.

Introduction

This workshop will explore:
  • working with fathers who are perpetrators,
  • naming and detailing the hopes of men, partners and fathers;
  • moving beyond good intentions to daily practices of respect;
  • considering responsible fathering interventions that appreciate connections between fathers’ relationships with their children and men’s behaviour towards their children’s mothers;
  • exploring moving from fathered centred parenting to child-centred parenting;
  • developing plans with the man for ethical and responsible actions.

Tracy Castellino
ShantiWorks
Tracy has been working in the field of violence against women for 25 years. Her vast experience includes direct service and management roles with a range of community service organisations but has focused on women and children’s services and men’s family violence prevention and intervention services. Tracy has considerable skills in identifying the local politics of communities and enabling individuals and teams’ ethics and visions for change. She prioritises taking care of people and processes to create positive outcomes. She employs a feminist intersectional lens to narrative therapy, creating a space for reflecting and engaging with ideas that go beyond what we already know in order to discover creative and respectful ways of being. The 'Working With Fathers who Perpetrate Violence’ training brings together Tracy’s work on ethics, theories of change and practice and creates a dynamic approach to engaging men with dignity and accountability.

ShantiWorks is a small feminist organisation in Richmond, Melbourne, designed to work for equality, peace and justice.
